Cleaning your deck is more important than you may think. A simple routine of regularly cleaning your deck reduces the likelihood of mould and stains forming. It also helps remove the contaminants that reduce the life of your decks protective layer.
Our professional cleaning service is a convenient way of keeping your deck looking great if you don’t have the time to do it yourself, or preparing the surface for a fresh coat of stain.
A gentle wash is a great way to freshen your deck between it’s regular staining, oiling or coating and should ideally be followed by a visual inspection for any breakdown or damage to the coating.
If you don’t routinely clean your deck, you may find that stains or mould are evident. Depending on the condition of your finish, a gentle wash could be all you need until your next coat of sealer is due. This involves the use of mild cleaning solutions designed to gently remove contaminants and brighten timber without stripping back your protective layer.
If your decks protective layer is too far gone, a deeper more aggressive clean and application of new stain, oil or coating could be needed. We can advise you on the best course of action depending on the condition of your deck.
For complete peace of mind, Deckfix can also provide a scheduled maintenance service, to inspect, clean and seal as needed to keep your deck looking its best all year round.
Your deck should be regularly swept with a soft broom and any spillages or bird droppings should be quickly cleaned as they occur. This will keep it looking good as well as minimise damage to the protective coating.
Your deck should be periodically scrubbed with a soft broom and gentle cleanser to wash away dirt and contaminants trapped in the finish or wood grain. This should be followed by a careful inspection of the finish for any signs of deterioration once the surface has dried. Our professional cleaning service can simplify this process by having an expert safely clean & inspect your deck for you.
When checking the finish for signs of deterioration, pay particular attention to the areas most exposed to sun, rain or contaminants. At any time, should your finish show signs of fading, peeling or discolouration, it’s time to apply a maintenance coat of stain or oil. Maintenance coats are generally needed every 9 – 18 months but this can vary considerably, depending on the type of finish, the porosity of the timber as well as the amount of weathering, wear & tear and contaminants your deck is exposed to. See our staining & oiling page for more information on this topic and to see if this service is right for you.
A maintenance plan is not offered for decks that we have not refinished as we can’t be sure of the products used and can’t guarantee the results. We can however remove your old stain, oil or coating and freshly refinish your deck in a choice of quality recommended finishes.
As part of our restoration or staining & oiling services, we advise you of the steps needed to maintain and preserve your deck. You may choose to do it yourself or we can customise a maintenance plan to suit your needs.
